This policy explains what alexhobson.co.uk collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. The data controller is Alex Hobson, United Kingdom.
What we collect
Orders. Your name, email address, billing address and order contents. Card details are entered on the payment provider's own systems and are never seen or stored by us.
Licences. The email address used at checkout, your licence key, and an identifier for each computer the licence is activated on.
Problem reports. When you use Report a problem in H-Q, we receive your message along with the plugin version, operating system and audio setup. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
Website use. Pages viewed and actions taken on the site, through cookies and the Meta Pixel. This is only collected where you have accepted non-essential cookies.
Why we use it
To take payment, deliver what you bought, issue and validate licences, answer support requests and fix faults. That use is necessary to perform our contract with you.
To keep accounting records, as required by law.
To send marketing emails and to measure advertising, where you have consented. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Who processes it
Shopify. Runs the store, the checkout and Shopify Email. Holds order and customer records.
Licence server. Hosted by a third-party database provider on infrastructure in Frankfurt, Germany. Holds licence keys, the email they belong to, and activation records.
Meta. Receives website activity through the Meta Pixel for advertising measurement, where cookies have been accepted.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone else.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep the cart and checkout working. They cannot be switched off.
Advertising and analytics cookies, including the Meta Pixel, are set only after you accept them. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings on the site.
Where it goes
Licence data stays within the European Economic Area, which the UK recognises as offering equivalent protection.
Shopify and Meta are based in the United States. Transfers to them are covered by the UK's approved transfer safeguards.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept for six years, as tax law requires.
Licence records are kept for as long as the licence exists, so that it can be reactivated and supported.
Problem reports are kept for twelve months. Marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, object to how it is used, or ask for it in a portable format. Email contact@alexhobson.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
Deleting your licence data ends the licence, as there is no other way to validate it.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
